Dr. Andrew Erlich, Author, Speaker and Psychologist

The Long ShadowsDr. Andrew Erlich is a prominent clinical psychologist, author and nationally-known speaker. His book, The Long Shadows, is a true-life novel about the life of his remarkable and much-loved uncle, Jake Erlich.

Jake was, at one time, the world’s tallest man.  He was discovered by Hollywood as a teenager and became a star during the silent film era, starring in around 50 films.  After that, he spent 14 years touring with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a sideshow performer.  His talent as an entertainer was enormous; he was an accomplished dancer and musician. He was a talented, painter, photographer, poet and sculptor, whose works can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Natural history in New York.

The Long Shadows is the story of the man best known as Jack Earle, who would overcome shyness, depression, temporary blindness and the physical challenges of his giant frame.  He became an inspiration to those who knew him and touched countless others with his kindness and artistry.

Dr. Erlich spent ten years researching and writing this loving portrayal of his uncle, who died at the age of 46 on the day the author turned three.
