Dave Pratt, Radio Personality

I greatly enjoyed working with Dave Pratt,  one of the Arizona’s most prolific radio personalities, who was awarded the Arizona Book Publishing Association’s most prestigious award for excellence in publishing, the Glyph, for Dave Pratt, Behind the Mic: 30 Years in Radio.

Any book produced by an Arizona publisher, written by an Arizona author, written about Arizona or set in Arizona was eligible to enter, making Behind the Mic a winner in a contest known for its tough competition. We spent about a year revising his book and I worked with him learning how to translate his humorous and poignant experiences into vivid scenes.

Moving, funny and  sincere, Behind the Mic takes readers journey from Pratt’s beginnings as a small-town boy who wanted to more than anything to be on the radio to his life as a top radio celebrity in Arizona.  Pratt, who has earned more than a 100 national and local awards and topped ratings in three formats, describes how he embraced his values despite the temptations of his high-flying liestyle. As compelling as Pratt’s rise to fame, however, is his triumphant battle with cancer; his memoir is a fundariser for the American Cancer Society.

Currently, Pratt “lets his thoughts fly” every morning, Monday through Friday, at www.davepratt.azcentral.com, a website powered by The Arizona Republic.

“Dave Pratt does an impressive job of making the transition from rock and country star to book author. This is a story that’s definitely worth reading.” – Robert Stieve, Arizona Highways editor
