Hiking boots need to be good. We are walking great distances often over treacherous terrain in all types of weather. They need to provide support for the feet, be comfortable and most of all they have to be strong.
But this does create a problem because good quality hiking boots are not cheap. Far from cheap. They are a specialist shoe and the companies that make them have the time to do it well. So what if you can't afford it. Are you not going to go hiking? Are you going to stop something you love? Why not buy a pair of discount hiking boots?
We are all guilty of presuming discount shoes are of bad quality without ever really looking at them. They don't cost as much as a computer so they must be bad. But one of the reasons that discount hiking boots are so cheap is that they don't have a big brand name.
Yes their quality is not as good, but there aren't the big difference that you would presume when you compare prices. At the same time there are poorly made shoes out there and this article aims to give you an idea of what to look for.
First of all you have to ask yourself the type of hiking boot you need. Do you need one that is light or heavy? Perhaps one that is in between. These are considerations to think about. If you are going for short treks and the terrain will not be too rocky then go for a pair that are light.
For longer treks, perhaps with backpacks, you may need something a bit heavier for support. In that case go for a mid-weight shoe.
Some of us out there are hardcore hikers and need a boot that will keep up them. A light boot will probably not last more than 6 months, and a mid weight shoe not much longer, so what you will need is a heavy boot. These boots are not only are comfortable, but also they offer great support to the lower leg and feet.
Price wise the heavy boots are the most expensive, but then they are also the most durable. So discount hiking boot are not as bad as you think. They have the same features, just not quite the quality of their expensive counterparts. But the difference isn't really that huge and just think you can buy 4 or 5 pairs of discount boots before you get anywhere near the price of a good brand name. So what's stopping you? You want to look good? People won't take you seriously if you don't have an expensive pair of boots? People will take you seriously if are a good hiker. If you are good people will follow you. So why not buy a pair of discount hiking boots and set a new trend.
