The Lawson Camping Hammock

There are a couple of reputable and well known camping hammocks on the market today, but one of the better known one's is the Blue Ridge Camping Hammock by Lawson. Lawson Hammock Company has been around since 1997, and their Blue Ridge Camping Hammock is based upon years of research to develop a camping hammock that was lightweight, weatherproof, low impact on the environment, very tough, and adaptable to a wide variety of terrains. Let's take a look at what they came up with that offered a solution to all of these concerns. The first thing that I notice about the Blue Ridge Camping Hammock is that it has poles like a traditional tent. I have slept in a camping hammock before, and loved it. But it was more of a parachute type hammock, when you laid on it the hammock material hugged around your body. The Blue Ridge has both spreader bars and arch poles, and Lawson claims that they are at the heart of their patented system. The spreader bars open up the hammock, making it nice and roomy inside, while at the same...

Hiking in Developing Nations

Backpacking is probably the best way to really experience a place of interest. You interact directly with the local people, take part in a cultural celebration, visit interesting religious sites and become a part of the community. The experience will be very much different from domestic hiking trips. Guided Hiking Tour A guided hiking tour can range from a simple trip to a huge expedition. These organized treks can be arranged when you're at home or when you arrive. Deciding to use the porters may cost a little bit extra but it will help a lot in supporting the local economy and encourage locals to preserve the surrounding natural beauty. Unguided Hiking The best thing about the guided tour is that if you have a porter you have to carry your own backpack. The most you'll carry will probably be no more than what your fanny pack can hold. Still a lot of hi...

My Weekend Camping Trip And My Birkenstock Sandals

We just came back from a weekend camping trip and after a long day hiking on the first day I was anxious to finally get in and get the tent setup. I hadn't even started the cooking fire, and I could smell the food already from the hunger I had worked up. Your stomach and your head will team up and play tricks like this on you after a full day in the woods. Now that we were at the campsite I could take off my heavy hiking boots and put on my Birkenstock sandals which of course are way more comfortable for hanging out around the campfire. My girl always teases me about my Birkenstock's; she's a worrier and thinks I may get a rash from poison oak or poison ivy by wearing them out in the woods. She does have a point in one sense and that is because the sandals are in such horrible shape due to my wearing them all of the time. I am so attached to my sandals that I have repaired them myself with everything from fishing line to duct tape so they do look pretty bad now. The thing is it has taken a long time to get th...
